PT – Biografia
O meu nome é Simão Pedro da Silva. Nasci no Porto, em 1982, e ao longo de quase duas décadas vivi e trabalhei em diversas cidades, Amarante, Las Palmas, Amesterdão, Macau, Hong Kong e Pequim. Atualmente, vivo e pinto em Vila Nova de Gaia. Embora tenha formação em Arquitetura pela Universidade do Porto, é na pintura que encontro o meu verdadeiro centro. Pinto por necessidade interior, uma prática diária, intuitiva e vital, que me permite traduzir o invisível em gesto e matéria.
Os meus trabalhos, exploram a emoção, a memória e a tensão entre o caos e a ordem. O processo é espontâneo, sem plano prévio, guiado pelo instinto mais do que pelo conceito e procura sempre autenticidade e liberdade introspectiva.

Acredito que a Arte deve fazer-nos refletir e que esse reflexo nem sempre é bonito.
Para mim, a arte não é artesanato nem decoração: é um poema, um filme, uma melodia algo que ressoa ao ritmo interior de cada um.
O meu processo é instintivo e desinibido: pinto o que emerge, sem planear nem filtrar, deixando que o gesto conduza o pensamento. As imagens são imaginadas, não observadas, nascem do interior e não da referência.
Vivemos numa época que glorifica a visibilidade. Somos todos, de algum modo, “famosos”, e por isso mesmo, menos livres. O artista tornou-se simultaneamente vítima e ator neste teatro da aparência, onde o reconhecimento muitas vezes dilui a autenticidade.
O meu trabalho posiciona-se contra essa lógica. Procura algo cru, direto e verdadeiro, uma arte sem modas, sem rótulos, sem limites nem política. Por vezes carregada de emoção; outras vezes, apenas apatia e silêncio.
Acredito que a verdadeira arte nasce quando o artista se liberta, quando cria não para agradar, mas para existir. O sentido do trabalho, se existir, deve surgir não no autor, mas no olhar de quem observa.
O que procuro na pintura é liberdade introspectiva: a tradução espontânea da verdade sobre a superfície da tela ou de qualquer suporte que a acolha.
É essa a minha busca: uma utópica liberdade artística. Expressionismo em bruto.
Entre as referências que mais me marcaram contam-se Salvator Rosa, Odilon Redon, Théodore Géricault, Francisco Goya, Henry Fuseli, Ilya Repin, Max Beckmann, Amadeo de Souza Cardoso, Max Pechstein, Santa Rita Pintor, Almada Negreiros, Otto Dix, Jackson Pollock, Salvador Dalí, Francis Bacon, Mark Rothko, Marc Chagall, Paula Rego, Jean-Michel Basquiat e Richard Hambleton, entre outros.
UK – Biography
My name is Simão Pedro da Silva. I was born in Porto, in 1982, and over the course of nearly two decades I have lived and worked in several cities, Amarante, Las Palmas, Amsterdam, Macau, Hong Kong, and Beijing. I currently live and paint in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal.
Although I trained in Architecture at the University of Porto, it is in painting that I find my true centre. I paint out of inner necessity, a daily, intuitive and vital practice that allows me to translate the invisible into gesture and matter.
My work explores emotion, memory, and the tension between chaos and order. The process is spontaneous, without a premeditated plan, guided more by instinct than by concept, and always seeks authenticity and introspective freedom.

I believe that art should make us reflect, and that reflection is not always beautiful.
For me, art is neither craft nor decoration: it is a poem, a film, a melody, something that resonates with each person’s inner rhythm.
My process is instinctive and uninhibited. I paint what emerges, without planning or filtering, allowing gesture to guide thought. The images are imagined rather than observed, they arise from within, not from external reference.
We live in an age that glorifies visibility. We are all, in some way, “famous”, and therefore less free. The artist has become both victim and actor in this theatre of appearances, where recognition often dilutes authenticity.
My work stands in opposition to that logic. It seeks something raw, direct, and truthful, an art without fashion, labels, limits, or politics. At times it carries emotion; at others, only apathy and silence.
I believe that true art is born when the artist becomes free, when creation happens not to please, but to exist. The meaning of a work, if it exists, should emerge not from the author, but from the viewer’s gaze.
What I seek in painting is introspective freedom the spontaneous translation of truth onto the surface of the canvas, or whatever medium may hold it.
That is my pursuit: a utopian artistic freedom. Raw Expressionism.
